Wage Protection System (WPS)
Also known as: WPS · Wage Protection Program · نظام حماية الأجور
The Wage Protection System (WPS), officially the Wage Protection Program in Saudi Arabia, is how the Ministry of Human Resources checks that private-sector employers pay wages on time and in the agreed amounts, by comparing the monthly wage file with the wage in each employee’s documented contract. Other Gulf states run similar systems.
How it works
For each employee the programme compares two things: what was actually paid, as shown in the wage file usually uploaded through Mudad, and what should have been paid, as set in the documented contract. An establishment is compliant when wages are paid on time, to the right people, in amounts that match those records.
What it means for HR
- A mandatory monthly file that must agree with the contract and the GOSI wage.
- Non-compliance can bring fines and suspended services until it is fixed.
- The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman run their own wage protection systems with their own rules and platforms.
