Frequently asked questions
What does a cashier do?
A cashier scans or enters items, takes cash, card and mada payments, issues the invoice from the point-of-sale system, handles returns under policy, counts the till at the start and end of the shift, and answers customers’ questions politely.
How should cash differences be handled?
Set it out in a written cash-handling policy: who counts the till, who signs the count, and how differences are reported and investigated. Deductions from wages are limited by the Labour Law, so check that any deduction for a shortage is allowed before you make it.
Are cashier roles covered by Saudisation?
Saudisation decisions cover some retail activities and professions. For example, the ministry’s decision for grocery stores and supermarkets covers the customer cashier and checkout supervisor roles, as well as customer service. Check the decisions that apply to your activity and the cashier profession on Qiwa before you advertise.
