Iqama
Also known as: Resident identity · هوية مقيم · Saudi residence permit
An iqama, officially the resident identity (هوية مقيم), is the residence permit of a non-Saudi worker in Saudi Arabia. The General Directorate of Passports issues it, its ten-digit number starts with 2, it is renewed periodically, and the work permit, GOSI registration and wage file all rely on it.
How it works
The employer issues the iqama after the worker enters the Kingdom on a work visa, and renews it together with the work permit before it expires. Most transactions run online through Muqeem or Absher Business, and exit re-entry visas, final exit and transfers of services all hang off it.
What it means for HR
- The iqama number is the identifier in the Mudad wage file and in GOSI, so a wrong digit rejects the record.
- Track expiry dates ahead of time. An expired iqama blocks services and can bring late-renewal fines.
- Keep a current copy on the employee file, with the passport number and its expiry date.
In RafiqHR
RafiqHR keeps the iqama number and expiry date on the employee record and reminds you before it expires. Rafiq AI can prepare this month's renewals list for you to approve.
